COUNTRY

France

YEAR

1950’s

DESCRIPTION

Abstract composition of female nude with table. One of Matisse’s well known paintings “Zulma” in a tapestry and the only motif he made during his Cut-Out collection that alluded to any three-dimensionality. The rough weave, textured almost like a burlap sac, references his simple and quick cut-out technique making it imperfect and course. Pastel colors in wool shaves lockstitch with a new frame in matte black with a yellow linen passepartout and black linen border. Signature on bottom left hand corner with date.
