History: BORN INTO A GERMAN FAMILY THAT HAD A PASSION FOR FOR THE ARTS, PRIKING BEGAN HIS PAINTING AT THE BAUHAUS IN WEIMAR AND AT THE ACADEMY OF THE ARTS IN BERLIN, WHERE HE LEARNED ABOUT GERMAN EXPRESSIONISM. IN 1950, PRIKING MOVED TO PARIS AND WORKED UNDER PABLO PICASSO FOR NEARLY A YEAR. THERE HE CHOSE TO FOLLOW THE EXPRESSIONISTIC MOVEMENT. HE GAVE UP BRIGHT COLORS AND USED MORE “RATIONAL” TONES, THOSE CLOSER TO EARTH. IN THE 1970’S, AFTER A BRIEF ABSTRACT PERIOD, PRIKING WAS INTRODUCED TO SYMBOLISM, INTREGRATING GEOMETRIC SHAPES BEFORE HE DIED AT THE AGE OF 49.
PRIKING PARTICIPATED IN 17 SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS AND 13 GROUP EXHIBITIONS AND RECEIVED 4 AWARDS. HIS ART HAS BEEN DISPLAYED IN 34 MUSEUMS INCLUDING THE MUSEE NATIONAL D’ART DE MODERN IN PARIS, THE LACMA IN LOS ANGELES AND THE VATICAN MUSEUM IN ROME.
